Home » Field Operations Technician Level 2
Performs a full range of work involving the installation, turn up, testing and activation of various types of telecommunications platforms, supporting components, racks/cabinets, overhead ladder systems, fiber ducting, and DC distribution equipment with an emphasis on optical hardware and interconnects.
Field Operations Technician Level 2 can expect to be placed on project assignments where any combination of the following tasking could be expected:
• Ironwork (ladder rack, subfloor infrastructure)
Cable management
• Fiber & copper management systems (i.e. Panduit raceway, Fiber Management Systems)
• DC Power cable (determining path, wax cord lacing)
• Fiber Optic Cable (light levels, scoping)
• RJ45
• Coaxial/BNC
• HTAP
• Equipment
• Ciena/Nortel 6500, Ciena Waveserver
• IP Routers/Switches
Use of Microsoft Office suite of products for:
• Requirements review and comprehension.
• Redlining
• Reporting
• Daily Status Report (DSR) submission
• Site Completion Report (SCR) submission
• Survey Reports
Knowledge of communications installations. Working knowledge and troubleshooting experience with various network devices (i.e., optical DWDM nodes, IP routers, optical/IP switches, etc.) from multiple manufacturers and possess the skill and expertise necessary to install these network devices per the Implementation Standards.
• Work with Fiber Optic, SONET, Ethernet and SDH related test equipment including OTDR, PMD, CD, Optical Spectrum Analyzer, BER Test Sets, Sniffers.
• Business communications skills including verbal, written, and graphic should be present, as should exposure to a customer service environment where discretion and professional demeanor are commonplace.
• Perform higher skill level job activities under direct supervision.
• Fluent in English language.
• At least 1-1/2 years of experience involving the construction, maintenance, or repair of various types of telecommunications or electronics equipment or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting completion of an accredited vocational or technical curriculum in telecommunications or a related discipline for the required or an equivalent combination of education and experience for one year only of the required experience.
• Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
• Willingness to travel 70% – 80% of the time with other team members to meet installation
assignment requirements.
• Ability to set up and ascend/descend ladders as necessary to reach overhead cabling and components undergoing installation or deinstallation.
• Ability to get down under sub-flooring as required to reach components and cabling.
• Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
